Ways For Young People to Have a Better Life

July 3rd, 2009

I was once grounded for coming home in the dark.In a Nutshell, success is something you attract by the person you become.

Do not sass or talk back to your parents or other adults. So if you want to start living a better Life this very moment, then you must at this very moment put you energy into becoming a better you. If your parents take you to see a professional, you must cooperate. This is because; income will seldom exceed your own personal development. While I saw a psychologist at the age of twelve, I refused to do tasks the psychologist gave me because I did not want to be there.Well, once in a long while, income could take a lucky jump, but unless you grow out to where it is, it will go back to where you are. The ride home with my mother was very unpleasant.A wise man once said, “”If you took all the money in the world and divided it among everyone equally, it would soon be back in the same pockets.”"

However, you can have more because you can become more.

When you see a performance or speech with your parents, you must clap when the rest of the audience claps. In other words, you can have more than you’ve got because you can become more than you are. I once refused to clap during a church sermon. So unless you change how you are, you will always have what you’ve got. My punishment was to eat liver with mayonnaise on it for dinner. All your marketing plans no matter how good they may seem, won’t work without you.

If your parents forbid you from having a particular food or drink, you must obey.It is the human effort that counts; so you’ve got to work it. During a time I was not allowed to have milk, I bought a carton of milk and put it the freezer downstairs. This is the major reason why some people seem to be doing far better than you.

One morning while I was getting ready to go to school, my father found the milk. The people that are doing better than you may not necessarily be smarter than you or of better character. He took my lunch money off my dresser and prevented me from having breakfast.Infact, they may even be having difficult personalities and questionable ethics. He told me, “”If I find any more milk you have bought, you’ll get your butt out of my house.Their ideas and opinions may not make much sense, but they nonetheless are doing better than you. You make the choice. Now, when you throw out your blame list and start becoming more yourself, then everything else will begin to change around you.

This book was written to assist you become a better you so that you can start living a better life. “”

Quickly use every gift your parents give you.Let’s go into the book right away as we begin to consider the various steps you need to take in order to start living a better life this very moment.

1. Several years ago, my father made me turn off my radio while I ate dinner because I had not started using a headset system he bought me for Christmas.WORK ON YOUR CHOICES
Aristotle said. Never mind that I did not ask for that item.”"We live in a world governed by laws, not chance.

Do not mess with your teachers’ materials.Everything happens for a reason, whether or not we know what it is. In my junior year in high school, I ripped out a page from my English teacher’s chart so I could finish taking notes.Every effect has a specific cause or has an effect of some kind, whether we can see it and whether we like it or not.” Success in anything in life is not a miracle, nor is it a matter of luck. I was written up and received a day of detention.Every thing happens for a reason, good or bad, positive or negative.

Never flip your middle finger at school. When you decide on what you really want, you then go ahead to copy other people who have achieved it before you, and you will eventually get the same results that they have. In my sophomore year, a classmate flipped me off and I returned the gesture. But let it be known to you that you create your entire world by the way you think. I was caught and sent to the hall. All the people and situations in your life have only the meaning you give them by the way you think about them.

Never relieve yourself in public. And when you change your thinking, you change your life, sometimes in second! What I am trying to say in a Nutshell is that, you become what you think about most of the time. In my junior year, I relieved myself outside because I thought I did not have enough time to use the restroom before the beginning of my next class. This principle is as applicable to individuals as it is to groups of individuals and organizations.

Now, it is not what happens to you but how you think about what happens to you that determine how you feel and react.

I was suspended for two days.It may interest you to know that it is not the world outside you that dictates your circumstances or conditions. I was lucky I was not prosecuted for indecent exposure. It is the world inside that creates the conditions of your life.

Be careful how you spend money. In other words, you choose your emotions and your behaviors by the way you choose to think about the world around you and about what is happening to you. I regret spending almost all of my allowance on comic books and not saving enough money. You can decide to react to any situation or condition in such a way that your responses are constructive and effective. Immediately deposit at least ten percent of your earnings in the bank when you get paid. But the facts remains that you are always free to choose.

Carry comic books home in your bag or hands. The way you explain things to yourself is under your control. I once put my comic books down my shirt and lost them. But its good for you to know that your thoughts and feedings are continually changing.

It is essential to eat properly and exercise to be healthy and improve your learning abilities. They are quickly affected by the events around you. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy products daily. For instance, when you receive a piece of good news, your countenance immediately brightens and you feel more positive toward everyone and everything.

Limit your intake of junk food. But if on the other hand, you unexpectedly receive some bad news, you can immediately become upset, angry, and short- tempered, even if the news is inaccurate or untrue. Do an aerobic exercise such as walking, jogging or bicycling for thirty minutes five days a week.Do you now agree with me that it is the way you interpret events to yourself that determines how you react to them.

It is also important to become physically stronger. So, what changes can you make in your thinking to improve the quality of some parts of your life starting from this very moment. If you do not have access to a gym, you can bench press and carry a bag or container full of weights or bricks.

2, CHALLENGE ALL YOUR SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS
A particular dictionary defines belief as “”a feeling that something or somebody is real and true; or confidence in something or somebody”". To exercise your stomach muscles, bench press a small amount of weight directly over your stomach. While Napoleon Hill said, “”The person who closes his mind to new ideas, concepts and experiences, enslaves his own personality.” Your beliefs act like a set of filters that screens out information that is inconsistent with them.

I sometimes lost gloves as a kid. Now, you may not necessarily believe what you see, but you will always see what you already believe. Make sure you have ample space in the pockets of your jackets and coats to carry your gloves. You consciously or unconsciously reject information that contradicts what you have already decided to believe, whether or not your beliefs, or your prejudices, are based on facts or fantasy.

Wear a hat in cold weather because you lose fifty percent of your body heat through your head. The word “”prejudice”" means to prejudge, to reach a conclusion in advance of any information, or even in spite of information, to the contrary. Carry mittens and gloves small enough to fit inside your mittens when it is very cold.To start living a better life from this very moment, you refrain from judging other people or situations until you have enough information to make an informed decision

. Always keep the sun out of your eyes with a cap or sunglasses.

Do not go to school without your lunch or lunch money. If you prepare your lunch, immediately put it in your backpack. If you buy your lunch, check your pockets at the door to make sure you are not leaving without your money.

Focus on getting good grades. Get tutoring and extra assistance from your teachers. Put what you learn into your own perspective.

Use repetition. Read your notes forwards and backwards to prevent being caught off guard if a test question is worded differently from the way your teacher and textbook presented the material.

Do not do things or act a certain way just to fit in with friends.

About WowReader/Profiles

June 23rd, 2009

WowReader also handles uploading of character profile information directly from the game.Help me out here. In order to use the profile system, you must have a user account on this site, and you will need to configure WowReader to use your login information to identify itself as you when you upload. Why is it a tier three in restoration. User accounts are free, and are required in order to assign you options regarding your characters.Hell why is it even restoration at all.

Q: How do I submit items, mobs, my profile and/or my guild. Secondly why did they take Gift of nature and make it the follow up to it TWO TIERS LATTER!.

A: Download WoWreader and install it. COme on. You can run wowreader after you exit the game, or click the on the reader and it will execute the game. It’s a waste of forty five mana. Either way you need your Allakhazam.By the time you’re lvl 40+ even if you can buy ranks in it it still remains WORTHLESS. com login and password. Two percent miss chance is just pathetic and it’s damage is laughable. Click Options >> Login.I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m verry aware about the fact that even with the right gear a druids Mana is very valueble,(sp. Click Anonymous or Log In (required for profiles), add your login name and password and click save.) even to a restoration druid. After you exit your game click the upload button to upload your information. When you’re looking after five people((this includes yourself)) you’re mana isn’t very high and is prescious. If it says no data to upload, you may need to click refresh.I just can’t see myself((even if I was full restoration)) using such a laughable talent. For each profile you want to upload you will need to log in and out of each character then upload. The only reason I could see it as being taken is just to get Gift of Nature.

The damage is the only thing that increases.

Q: I am having problems with wowreader, what do I do.That’s such a waste of Mana.

A: Access our message board thread devoted to wowreader, then contact Rale if you cannot fix the error.Okay two percent miss chance. In your e-mail please include any errors you are experiencing and on what days. They still hit you every eight of ten swings.

Q: Will I get banned from WoW by Blizzard if I use WoWReader. That’s not much of an improvement. Isn’t it considered third party software.I’d rather spend like 25 Rage and just use Fairie Fire Bear from and Demoralizing Roar.

A: WoWReader isn’t third party software, it is considered a LUA UI addon. Now those are Debuffs worth using anything on.

Q: When will you have a mac wowreader version.Be it rage, mana or energy.

Actually, 2% to miss is almost like 2% to dodge.

A: You can now use the Manual Profile Upload page to upload profiles from a mac or if you’re unable to use wowreader for any other reason.Tell a Warrior you can give him 2% to dodge for some mana, and he will piss his pants in joy.

“With or without NS, rogues are easy as long as you don’t get stun locked.

Usually they know this and immediately come out with a stun.

.If/when you get out of it (hopefully your trinket isn’t on cooldown like mine always seems to be) immediately flame shock them to prevent stealth, drop Earthbind to slow them down, and by all means DO NOT let them get behind you!

If you are not at least partially resto spec you may have a very hard time healing - their weapons are very fast and may prevent you from getting the spell to cast without ILHW and/or NS. If this is the case, dump all the mana and effort you can into DPS’ing them down as fast as possible. War Stomp to buy time for a heal if you are a Tauren.

If they do manage to re-stealth, drop a Fire Nova totem (if your mana is low use rank 1). When it blows, they will either be out of range or exposed.

The Darkmoon Faire is in town

June 22nd, 2009

They’re sending her droves of level 70 items, and they want the materials back.

And since Children’s Week is still going on, if you haven’t sent your Orphan back to the orphanage yet, why not give them a treat.
If you’ve played the level 70 game and done the Shattered Sun Offensive dailies, you probably know where this is going. Show them around the faire and buy them an Iced Berry Slush (and get yourself a Darkmoon Special Reserve at the same time)!

Also, if you’re not level 58 yet, don’t despair, you can still join in the fun.On a good day, doing the complete Outland daily circle, I can come out with somewhere around 10 disenchant-worthy items between regular drops and Shattered Sun Supplies. A Mage can teleport you to Shattrath City any time, so if you can bribe or convince them to open a portal for you, you can still make it over.Leafshine says she can sometimes spend up to 10 minutes working on Disenchanting, and I can believe it.

Don’t despair.Every time I process a batch of greens on my disenchanter, not only does it take some time to get through with them, then I have to process multiple piles of reagents, and figure if I’m going to store them, sell them, or use them to make a tailoring blue which I will then disenchant into a shard. Hopefully, my emotionally scarring trip though Elwynn Forest will aid you and your newly minted Mage.

If added disenchanting for friends in there, I could spend all the day disenchanting. Below you’ll find as much advice as I can reasonably pack within a weekly column.I have to commend Leafshine for putting up with it, and I don’t think it would be a bad idea to start charging a disenchant fee - even if it’s as simple as taking a cut of the materials. Hopefully, it will help you get from level 1 to level 20 with your robes intact, and a trail of dead bears in your wake. It’s one thing to expect a disenchanter to be ready to disenchant dungeon blues that no-one needs, but it seems like another to mail your stuff to them and expect them to take their time to disenchant it free of charge.

Making your Mage

You have six races to choose from when you roll a Mage.I know that friends should help each other out with tradeskill stuff, but there’s a limit. Each has their small advantages and disadvantages, but the choice should eventually come down to personal preference.Yeah, we’re friends, we’ve raided together, but if I expect you to take 10 minutes out of your play time to help me out, throwing you some gold for your time seems like nothing more than common courtesy.

Daily chores

Some people really seem to enjoy repping up with various factions. If you’re going Alliance side, you can be a Human, Gnome, or Draenei.I am not one of them. These classes each offer racial abilities of varying degrees of usefulness to Mages.I’ve known people who complete the maximum amount of daily quests on multiple characters. I’ll highlight those that I feel are most relevant to your choice. It’s fantastic that Blizzard has opened up opportunities for relatively easy gold and reputation, but I wish there was a little more variety in the experience.

Prior to Patch 2.4, when the limit was ten, I don’t think that I ever completed more than four or five dailies per day. Humans offer a 10% innate buff to spirit, which can be fairly awesome for mana regeneration at higher levels. Now that we’ve been bombarded with Quel’Danas dailies and the limit is twenty-five, I do up to eight on rare occasions. Gnomes grant a 5% bonus to intellect, a Mage’s bread and butter stat.I almost always complete the daily battleground quest, but that’s about it most days. Draenei have the Gift of the Naaru, which would give your Mage their only healing ability, as well as the incredible wondrousness that is Inspiring Presence.I know that they’re an excellent source of gold, but they feel like such a chore to me. Yes, that really does give you and everybody in your party an extra 1% chance to hit with spells or melee attacks, depending on their class, and yes, that is awesome in raids.I find daily questing to be almost as much fun as washing dishes and doing laundry. I’m not saying pick a Draenei, I’m just saying holy crap, Blizzard. If it means I never get epic flying mounts on my characters, so be it.

If you’re for the Horde, your choices are Troll, Undead, or Blood Elf.

. Trolls come with Berserking, a very nice ability that essentially grants you a bunch of spell haste for 10 seconds every 3 minutes. The Undead have several useful racial abilities, though none of them relates specifically to Mages. Will of the Forsaken is an excellent PvP ability for any class, while breathing underwater definitely has its uses. Blood Elves can silence their opponents while recovering a small amount of mana at the same time.

The Strong Free Will Theorem

June 20th, 2009

If something contradicts my notions, I must revise my notions.Subjects were asked to rank the physical strength or fighting ability of the people in the photographs on a scale of one to seven. )

Before any comparison can be made, we must first understand what they mean by “free will”.When the photographs depicted men whose strength had been measured precisely on weight-lifting machines, the researchers found an almost perfect correlation between perceptions of fighting ability and perceptions of strength. They define it thus:

They prove this by showing that the information available to A is not enough to determine A’s response.”"When you see that kind of correlation it’s telling you you’re measuring the same underlying variable,”" said Tooby.

They also found that perceptions of strength and fighting ability reflected the target’s actual strength, as measured on weight-lifting machines at the gym. (I am not going to review or critique the paper here, so read it yourself to find answers to your questions and objections. In other sections of the study, the researchers showed that this result extended far beyond the gym. ) A, by the way, is a particle “choosing” to move. Both men and women accurately judge men’s strength, whether those men are drawn from a general campus population, a hunter-horticulturalist group in Bolivia, or a group of herder-horticulturalists living in the Argentinian Andes.

Leg strength was measured along with upper body strength in both the United States and Bolivian populations, but the results showed that perceptions of men’s strength and fighting ability reflect upper body strength, not that of legs.

Unlike the memory, processing, and information constraints I placed upon the actor in my last free will post, the particle in their proof has perfect information and enough time to make a decision.”"That makes sense,”" said Cosmides. And yet its decision is still not deterministic.”"If, for example, you’re trying to lift something really heavy, or run a long distance, your lower body –– your legs –– will also be significant. So basically, it looks like everything I’ve said on free will does not apply. But for fighting at close quarters, it’s the upper body that really matters.”"

Added Tooby: “”Whether people are assessing toughness or strength, it’s upper body strength they implicitly register.

Except it does. And that’s the critical information our ancestors needed in deciding –– or feeling –– whether to surrender a disputed resource or escalate aggressively.”"

The researchers suggest that the ability to judge physical strength and fighting ability serves different, but equally important, purposes for men and women. One problem with deterministic systems is deadlock; presented with two or more equivalent options, how is a choice made.In men, the mechanism is a barometer for measuring potential threats and determining how aggressive or submissive they should be when facing a possible enemy. Injecting some non-deterministic element–”free will”–gets the job done. For women, the mechanism helps identify males who can adequately protect them and their children.

I would even say that in the example of indecision I gave, such non-deterministic involvement is even more necessary.Men have a lot more experience with rough and tumble play and direct experience with fighting, yet women are just as good at assessing these variables. After all, deadlocks are just one form of indecision, and indecision creeps up in many ways as you increase the constraints and complexity of the system. The authors also point out that neither men nor women fare as well in assessing women’s strength. It helps to have undetermined nudges to cut down on processing time so that life can go on; it’s worth the risk of acting prematurely rather than die of starvation before reaching a decision. This is entirely expected because, ancestrally, inflicting violence was mostly the province of men.

“”The next step is to isolate what it is in the face that indicates upper body strength,”" said Sell.

The particle’s action is not entirely free.He suggests that the correlation may lie in the heavier brow ridge and thicker jaw that result from increased levels of testosterone. It is just not completely determined.”"Many studies have been done on the effects of testosterone on the face. Likewise, I have not advocated that the will of any thing is entirely free or entirely determined, but rather lies on a spectrum of freedom. There’s a good chance testosterone is involved in regulating the body for battle, and men with high testosterone –– those with a heavy brow ridge and thicker jaw –– developed bodies that were more prepared for combat.”"

“”One reason we evolved the ability to perceive physical strength in the face may be that it’s where we focus our attention when we look at someone,”" said Cosmides.

“”Even if we are able to see someone’s body, we always look at the face.

I admit that up until now, I was not allowing for a non-deterministic element, as I did not find it necessary. It’s so rich in social information –– what a person is thinking or feeling –– and adding the assessment of physical strength is a huge benefit. However, it is easy to plug one in.A person who is angry and strong offers a much greater threat than the person who is angry but weak.”"

. A particle is a thing with a tiny measure of free will, and we are collections of particles with, well, more free will, in the absolute sense.

True, we may be the same “percent free” as a single particle, relatively-speaking, if you broke it down that way.

How to Avoid a Child Custody Battle

June 16th, 2009

Whether you are going to enter into a private or a court-ordered child custody mediation process, there are several things you need to know before you walk into that conference room.”Much of our business involves clients who call and have found themselves with an ex-spouse who is not paying the child support due to them. Mediation is the process in which parents make critical determinations after a divorce about their children’s future with the help of an expert negotiator. This is an ever growing problem in the United States of America.

So, you find yourself divorced and with the primary care of the children. This process has proven to be very beneficial for the parents, children and family courts.Beyond that you have found yourself with an ex-spouse who is not paying the child support due to you from the court order.

In a child custody case parents can choose to use mediation instead of having a court battle. This problem is ever growing and often the ex-spouse weaves their way through the nooks and crannies of the legal system and never pays the support you are entitled to. Child custody mediation can also be a tool to settle differences once the custody fight has been started. You will find yourself in a time consuming process of attempting to locate the ex-spouse and attempting to have service of process performed and judgments made. Like in divorce mediation, in a child custody mediation it is suggested that both parents appear in company of their respective lawyers. It is not fair and we understand that more than you know. The mediation conference is usually held in one of the attorneys’ office on a date and time all parties have agreed upon, usually several weeks in advance.Let’s look at how you can approach this in 2 phases. An expert mediator, whose qualifications have already been reviewed by both attorneys, will facilitate the discussion. The first is things you can do to help yourself and the second is what a private investigator can do for you.

Make the best out of those weeks before your mediation.

What you can do to help yourself:

The most important thing is to retain all your paperwork the court had provided to you. Do your homework before you go in.Retain all judgments, orders and minutes you may have after the hearings. The first concern you should address when facing a mediation process is how are you going to interact with your ex-spouse during the negotiation talks.

The next is to keep all relevant information about your ex-spouse you can. You must always leave aside any resentment about the past. This includes names they used, date of birth, social security number, addresses, phone numbers, and places they worked including the addresses. A child custody mediation process is about your children. If you have past banking information that is helpful as well because most persons stick with the bank they have used. It has nothing to do with the reason you got divorced. You also want to keep track of friends the ex-spouse had been with and if you have any relevant information on them, that can prove to help down the road. It is understandable that this is difficult for many to do, particularly in the case of a contested or adversarial divorce.Individual habits of the ex-spouse are truly important.

Meet with your attorney to discuss all the topics that are to be addressed in the mediation. Most humans are just that, human and will tend to frequent the same types of places or live in the same kind of areas. Prepare a list of questions for your attorney to answer when you meet with him or her. They will also tend to find the same type of work when they decide to leave their current employer because they are being garnished. Listen to your attorney’s advice regarding children’s support, place of residence, education, custody and visitation issues.

Finally when trying to find the ex-spouse on your own all the information you collect with be extremely worthwhile and keeping the information fresh is paramount to finding. Regarding custody and visitation, first determine with whom you think the children should live.If they come to see the kids, get the vehicle license plate number, description and anyone who is with them. Prepare a custody and visitation plan according to your preferences on how much time the children should spend with each parent, especially on holidays and special occasions.

Don’t waste your time and money performing costly searches on internet databases available to the public!

What a private investigator can do for you:

The first and most important thing that a private investigator brings to you is investigative experience. If possible, come with a preferred and a second option that are acceptable to you on how you would like each issue to be resolved.Private investigators have the experience, skills and training to handle investigations such as yours. At the end of the meeting with your attorney you should have reached a conclusion on the direction or strategy to follow. You cannot discount the fact that a private investigator will be able to put their investigative experience to work on your case.

You should not have any other commitments scheduled for after the mediation, because you can never assume how long the mediation conference will last. You will find that hiring a private investigator gives you more success in your investigative needs.

What Can Students Do to Prepare for College

June 15th, 2009

Students can prepare for college and the college admissions process in a number of ways, some starting well before the application process begins in their junior year of high school.”My oldest child is going to be a HS senior this school year. One of the constructive activities that will prepare students for life, as well as help them prepare for college, is to participate in extracurricular activities from a young age.I’m looking for information on what other parents have done to help their child get ready for that transition in their lives. College admissions committees are interested in the whole student, not just academic achievement, so extracurricular activities from athletics, to work, to music, to student government, to community service all serve the extra purpose of helping a child prepare for college.Everything from banking, to cleaning, to doing laundry, everything that your child needed to learn in order to live on their own–even in a dorm setting.

Extracurricular activities begun young can build an impressive résumé by the time a child reaches the end of high school. If you have some tips that have helped both you as the parent, and your child as a student, I’d love if it you could share those. Students who learn any skill have not only a non-academic area to present to the college admissions committee, but also may additionally gain the opportunity to teach others, whether coaching children in soccer skills or giving drum lessons. If you’re a current college student, I’d love to hear how much your parents help you out currently, how you guys handle issues such as spending money, going home, car issues, etc.

Participating in the life of the community is a way for a student to become an involved citizen and begin to understand life beyond the home and the school.Or, if you tried something, and it blew up in your face, please share that as well. A student who works will gain valuable experience participating in the economic life of the community, as well as earning money that may be put towards college expenses.Thank you in advance from a parent of a class of 2008 student!

Ive been out of college 2 years, and my little sis just went (rather unsuccessfully) through her first year of college. A student who begins some kind of volunteer work young—whether working in a soup kitchen, participating in green-up activities, or volunteering in a nursing home—both has an additional important angle to share with admissions committees and also has an edge in understanding how to make their way in whatever city and state—or country—they end up in for their higher education experience. They need to know some basic life skills, balanceing a check-book, laundry, cooking small meals, the things you HAVE to be able to handle that they decided weren’t important to teach in high school anymore! Start NOW on teaching how to use credit cards responsibly.

Taking the courses required for admission is, of course, an important aspect of what students can do to prepare for college. My dad gave me his when I went to college but stressed that it was EMERGENCY’s only…and I was to call and verify before I swiped it…lol! That kept me from goin crazy. The standard college preparatory program includes 4 years of English, 3–4 years of math, 3–4 years of laboratory science, 3 or more years of social science or social studies, and study of a foreign language, usually for a minimum of 2 years studying the same language. The toughest part on me at first was the general adjustment, I went to a very small high school where my mom was a teacher and she did practically everything for me, and I got pretty bad homesick.

In addition, the student’s potential college major may well guide the student to do more if they may wish to major in any areas that have stringent requirements, such as science, pre-med, and engineering.I was tougher than my little sis tho, I stuck it out b/c I refused to go home with my tail between my legs…haha! Once that first semester was over and I got into the swing of things, I LOVED college. Taking Advanced Placement courses (AP), when they are offered, is considered de rigueur for admissions to some schools.

One thing I think you should advise is get your child active in things. Check college websites for more information about high school course requirements.I was on the dance team in college and met a ton of people that way….it was so much easier to make friends when you had a common ground.

Standardized tests such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and/or American College Testing program (ACT) are often a requirement of the admissions process, so most students will take one, the other, or both as they prepare for college.Sororities and Fraternities are great too, they didnt offer them at my college, but had they, I would have certainly joined, once agian, to meet more people. Taking a practice test, like the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) not only qualifies a student for the National Merit Scholarship, but also provides SAT practice.

As far as going home and car issues, I had a car (not the best in the world, but it got me there!)

Unfounded fears of language pollution

June 11th, 2009

Imagine ending up in jail for signing a petition requesting that your university offer foreign-language courses.”Evidence is mounting that false signals from synthetic checmicals are harming reproduction, immunity and behavior in wildlife. It would be difficult to conceive of in most parts of the world, but it happened in Turkey. Are humans also at risk. Seventeen Kurds were accused by a special security court of “”promoting separatism and inciting racial hatred”" because they wanted their local university in Eastern Turkey to introduce a course on the Kurdish language.

On California’s Channel Islands in the mid-1970s, an ecologist found an abnormally high ratio of female gulls to male gulls.

Although the Turkish authorities’ reaction is extreme, fear of languages is not unusual. In Florida in the early 1990s, a team of endocrinologists discovered abnormally small penises in alligators near a former Superfund site.

In the United States, a land of immigrants who brought in many different languages, this fear is evident in the English-only movement. And in Great Britain, biochemists have noticed in the last few years that something in wastewater effluent appears to be creating hermaphroditic fish.

Sound like bizarre episodes of Wild Kingdom. Twenty-six American states have passed laws declaring English the official language. Actually, these observations are all clues to a far-flung scientific sleuthing saga. Several of these states have also virtually banned bilingual education, primarily through the initiative process, which asks voters to choose English-only over bilingualism.Over the last few years, experts from a dozen disciplines have been piecing together field and laboratory evidence that environmental pollutants may be doing far more damage to wild-life and humans than previously suspected, in ways no one had imagined possible. English usually wins by 2-to-1 margins. For starters, by sending various false signals to endocrine (or hormonal) systems in the body, pollutants could be harming vertebrate reproduction worldwide.

Americans’ fear of languages, particularly Spanish, is especially strong in parts of the Southwest and Florida, where some feel you have to know Spanish in order to get a job.All of this evidence could comprise one of the most alarming messages wildlife has ever sent our way. Americans don’t want to learn another language in their own country, which they see as an English-speaking nation.”"If we don’t believe that animals in the wild are sentinels for us humans, we’re burying our heads in the sand,”" says Linda Birnbaum, director of the environmental toxics division of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals are associated with problems ranging from developmental deficiencies in children, to smaller penises in pubescent boys, to infertility.

Perhaps what Americans fear most about languages is the possibility of the country breaking up, as they think might happen in Canada.”"Every day, I get more concerned,”" says John McLachlan, chief of the laboratory of reproductive and developmental toxicology at the National Institute of Environmental Health and Science (NIEHS).

Implicated are huge numbers of products - including some pesticides, industrial solvents, adhesives and plastics. Bilingualism is perceived to be a recipe for Balkanization and Americans won’t have anything to do with it.A very few, such as PCBs and the pesticide DDT, have been banned or are more heavily regulated in this country than in the past - though they persist in the environment.

While in the U.But thousands have never been regulated. S.Much of the stuff is deposited worldwide by the atmosphere and has been found in both the Arctic and Antarctica.

Until the last few years, the biggest question for regulators has been: Does a given chemical cause cancer, and if so, at what exposure level. Spanish causes fear, in Canada it is English. (And very few chemicals have even been tested for carcinogenicity.) Now some researchers are also asking: Does a chemical harm reproduction, immunity, behavior or growth. French-speaking Canadians, most of whom live in Quebec, are adamant about protecting their language because they see themselves surrounded by English speakers and feel that their very culture is threatened.

Also, regulators have long assumed each chemical to be innocent until proven guilty. So the provincial Quebec government passed laws to defend French. But researchers are growing increasingly concerned at evidence that related chemicals may be able to harm the body in similar ways. One of them states that public signs in Quebec have to be twice the size of their English translations. For example, DDT and dioxins (often commonly referred to in the singular) are members of a group of similar chemicals called organochlorines.

French-speaking Canadians are not the only ones to fear the supremacy of English. They are not to be confused with the chlorine we safely use to disinfect swimming-pool water and bleach our clothes. Several years ago when the U.While DDT is a deliberate product, dioxins are unwanted byproducts of industrial high-temperature use of chlorine.

A 1994 National Wildlife Federation report, Fertility on the Brink: The Legacy of the Chemical Age, concluded that there is enough evidence to warrant phaseouts, at the very least, of certain chemicals released into the environment. S.The list includes dioxins, some pesticides and hexachlorobenzene.

A fair way to shrink the wealth gap

June 10th, 2009

The new Democratic-led Congress has already made great strides on its ambitious legislative agenda.”The Ideal
Smart leaders set themselves apart. From hiking the minimum wage to cutting interest rates on student loans, Democrats have won impressive bipartisan support for their legislative goals. They are not, nor do they pretend to be, like the led.

Not included on the agenda, however, is any proposal designed to address what may be the most fundamental problem facing America right now: an alarmingly high degree of inequality.Rather they are deliberately different, the nature of the difference depending on the circumstance.

Currently the top 10 percent of income earners in the US own 70 percent of the wealth, and the wealthiest 5 percent own more than the bottom 95 percent, according to a Federal Reserve Study.

In turn, we, the led, want them to be other than us, elevated in some fashion, a primitive reminder perhaps that our fate is in their hands. The ratio of average CEO pay to worker pay in the US shot up from a mere 301-to-1 in 2003 to 431-to-1 in 2004.In fact we downright dislike leaders playing the part of populist - say President Jimmy Carter’s misguided decision to eliminate many of the trappings of the presidential office. The average CEO now earns $11.His one term presidency was hardly helped by his cutting way down on pomp and circumstance, by his sending nine-year old daughter Amy to a nearby public school, or by his wearing a cardigan sweater rather than the previously obligatory jacket and tie when addressing the American people. 8 million per year, versus the paltry $27,460 for the average worker.

But, ideally, there are limits to the distance. As America tries to grapple with soaring healthcare costs and lack of universal coverage, UnitedHealth Group CEO William McGuire received an obscene $124.That is, while leaders are expected to be different from you and me, they are not expected or supposed to be very different from you and me. 8 million in compensation in 2005.In fact, the more important the group membership, the more important the leader’s capacity to connect to followers by being somehow like them. He’s just one of many grossly overcompensated kingpins of the US economy.Hillary Clinton understood this when she bellied up to the bar in Pennsylvania - as did Barack Obama when (to his regret!) he tried his hand at bowling.

Adding insult to injury, taxpayers actually subsidize these bloated CEO salaries. The most extreme example of this balance between leaders being different from their followers, and simultaneously similar to them, is in battle. The federal government gives tax breaks to corporations for those salaries, to the tune of hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars. As Thomas Kolditz has pointed out, in high stakes situations leaders gain trust by demonstrating that risk and reward are fairly distributed among all members of the group, them included.

We used to call this by another name: the Gilded Age.

The Deal
In corporate America the implicit contract between leaders and followers has been severed.

Income disparity hurts democracy

The level of inequality and unfairness has risen to such eye-popping levels that it is attracting attention from unlikely sources. The optimum distance between them has become a yawning gap. Ben Bernanke, Federal Reserve Board chair, has called rising inequality “”a concern in the American economy.

In 2007 chief executive officers earned on average 180 times more than their subordinates. “” Mr.This is more than double the multiple of fifteen years ago. Bernanke’s esteemed predecessor, Alan Greenspan, has said that disparate income distribution is “”not helpful for a democratic society. To be clear, total direct compensation - salary, bonuses, restricted shares, stock options and other annual and long-term incentives - rose only a relatively modest 3.5 % from a year earlier. “” President Bush’s Treasury secretary, Henry Paulson, has noted, “”[M]any Americans simply aren’t feeling the benefits”" of the US’s recent economic expansion. But the extreme pay gains for CEOs in the last couple of decades, and the now deep economic divide between them and others in their organization is in violation of everything we know, or think we know, about good leadership.

The first chief executive officer to pull in more than a million a year was Revlon’s Michel Bergerac, in 1974.

No doubt Democrats would agree. Here are three in the top tier in 2007:

• John Thain, CEO of Merrill Lynch, $78.5 million
• Ray Irani, CEO of Occidental Petroleum, $60.9 million
• Kenneth Chenault, CEO of American Express, $46.2 million

You might reasonably assume that the highest paid chiefs deserved their big bucks, at least earned them on the basis of stellar performance. Oddly, however, in this country that was founded at least in part on the principle of equality for all, economic disparity has become a third rail of American politics.Well, you would assume right, but only in some cases.

Democrats don’t dare touch the issue for fear of being labeled “”tax-and-spend”" liberals or being blamed for igniting class warfare. For example, Oracle’s Lawrence Ellison, Procter & Gamble’s A. America needs to get over these rhetorical rigidities.G. Government has a role to play in restoring another fine American value: fairness.Lafley, and Goldman Sachs’s Lloyd Blankenfein all raked in very big bucks, and all head companies that had a strong year.

Here’s a first step toward fairness – a modest legislative solution to the problem of excessive executive pay. However in other cases you would assume wrong.

Patch 3.1, Ulduar and Blizzard love~

June 8th, 2009

Has been a while ^_^ I must say that I didn’t really have anything to write after my last post; nothing interesting was really happening (I didn’t read for about a month because of connection issues with my ISP, AT&T and Blizzard), and during that month, ironically speaking my guild got Immortal (but sadly that was the only time they got it).”The past November 30th was a very interesting night.

Anyway, last night, big night, patch day 3.There’s so many screenshots to post but lets see if I can go in order. 1 Ulduar. That night was a Sunday, and we had planned a raid to Malygos, which would make the second time we saw that boss (25-man). The server came up very late (at around 7-8 PM CST or somewhere around there), first thing we tried was the new dude in Archavon

Sadly we got there too late; only managed to pull once and after we got back they were already vanishing (because Wintergrasp was starting in 10 minutes).I’ve never done the 10-man version so far so…

There are a couple of pictures of the encounter.

Afterwards we headed to Ulduar, the first boss is pretty nice, all that tanking stuff is really fun
But you know what is the most fun thing about this.If I’m not wrong that night it only took us two attempts to kill Malygos.

That made us the second alliance guild in Mal’Ganis to kill Malygos. For some weird reason our instance got bugged; we were all totally lagged (moving all over but nothing else was working), but for other guilds in the server their instance was fine. The funny note of the fight was that, when he was about to die we almost wiped, but two brave souls enraged and managed to take him down and remain alive at the end of it

That’s Apperishun and me! I’m not sure what happened, but for some reason by the end of the fight the rest of the raid was blasted, I just remember that a ton of people died and I even thought that we were going to wipe.

So, we finished the raid a lot earlier than expected, you wouldn’t believe how fast we did all that.

We waiting for probably two hours or so and we were still inside (no server disconnection or anything like that). After we were done I’m not sure who was it, but since we had a full raid, someone threw the idea of going and killing all the raid leaders around the world.

I was so bored I decided to kill myself, but the lag didn’t let me
At the end we didn’t really manage to see the first boss, the night was pretty frustrating for us.After a couple of minutes we filled up the raid (with 40 people) and started the raid.

Keep in mind that, even tho we did have people from other guilds (I think two or so other guilds), of the 40 people in the raid, Pro Baddies was probably 30-35 or around there, so the majority of it was our guild.

As we were going up some people fell off the elevator and even the bridge at the top, hehehe.

So we went into the city and killed him rather easily.

After that we headed to Silvermoon City, the target this time was Lor’themar Theron, the Regent Lord of Quel’Thalas.

By the time we killed her the Horde was already aware of our movements, we had to strike the last target as fast as possible… What was left.

And then my theory is that the patch wasn’t really ready, maybe they just released it because they were already taking too long (I think I read somewhere that Blizzard has some sort of quality control in their games, but doesn’t seem like it). Orgrimmar, and our host would be Thrall. If you go to mmo-champion you’d read that there are so many bugs in the instance (wasn’t there a beta test. When we got there there was already a healthy defense of Horde, some people said it was impossible, but after we learned that horde gave the alert that we were there we had no other choice than to gather all our courage and ram into the place.

. ).

This might be a QQ, but I was so looking forward to get some action after months, maybe tonight, hopefully.

If anybody is wondering, my dual spec is PvE Tank and PvE DPS. I specced something last night, was thinking about respeccing and change some stuff this morning but noticed that there was some sort of rollback and all my talents were reset, so at least I saved some Gs there.

Playing a Dungeons and Dragons Online Battle Cleric

June 6th, 2009

“Considering how versatile the battle cleric is, it is not surprising that so many individuals make the effort to build their Dungeons and Dragons Online battle cleric from scratch.”Many players scoff at the idea of a DDO battle cleric. With this type of effort, it is clear that there is all manner of attention being paid to the abilities and special skills that only the DDO battle cleric is able to utilize, making the particular class extraordinarily useful and versatile.Ever since the original pen and paper Dungeons and Dragons game, clerics have always been relegated to the healer role. By selecting the battle cleric, you can eliminate the need for dependency on other classes and level your character solo or with a team.People just don’t usually associate the cleric class with getting up in the front lines and smashing monsters.

With the tremendous versatility that the battle cleric can offer in the Dungeons and Dragons Online world, it only makes sense to utilize the highly suitable character and focus on creating the most useful class possible.Fortunately, for people who want to try a different take on the “holy warrior” archetype epitomized by the Dungeons & Dragons Online paladin, the battle cleric is a viable option in the game.

So what differentiates a DDO battle cleric from a run of the mill cleric. With so many different skills available and different types of abilities to choose from, the battle cleric makes the best choice for those individuals who are concerned with their ability to work solo as well as fill the need for working within a team. Well, battle clerics take their gear seriously.

All the effort involved in succeeding at Dungeons & Dragons Online can be reduced by correctly choosing the class that works best for you.If you’re going to go toe-to-toe with vicious enemies, you’ll need a good weapon and heavy armor. The use of a battle cleric can make all manner of difference and will certainly make you more popular with teams who want the versatility and extremely suitable character class during dungeon raids and other team functions. You’ll also want to focus on more offensive stats, like Strength. Whether you are competing at PVP, PVE or working in a raid, the battle cleric has all manner of skills and abilities that make this DDO cleric class suitable for use under any circumstances. This will allow your Dungeons and Dragons battle cleric to mix it up with the enemies on the front line and be able hold his or her own.

Lastly, you’ll need to take a different approach to your spell selection. “When playing games like Dungeons and Dragons Online, leveling is what players spend a pretty significant chunk of their playtime doing.Whereas DDO clerics who focus on healing end up saving their spells for that purpose, a battle cleric is all about enhancing his or her party. Since MMO games are effectively never-ending, leveling up to the game’s maximum level is the closest players can get to “beating” the game. You’ll be casting a lot of spells that grant your party passive bonuses to their attacks and defense, making the whole group more effective in combat.

Leveling in Dungeons and Dragons Online is significantly different from the way it works in other MMO games. You’ll have no problems racking up Dungeons and Dragons Online gold and experience with a good battle cleric build

. Most MMOs have high level caps – for example World of Warcraft’s level cap is 70 – but the level cap in DDO is only 16. This might lead one to think that leveling in DDO will be quick and easy. That’s simply not the case, however. Each level is divided up into four sections, so it’s really more like there are 64 levels!

Another big difference is that in Dungeons and Dragons Online, you don’t gain experience by just killing monsters like in other games. Instead, you must actually complete DDO quests in order to gain experience and level up. Furthermore, once you get past the early levels in the game, almost all the quests you do will require you to find a group. Dungeons and Dragons is not built for players who like to play solo, which may be a bit of a shock for people coming from other MMO games. If you’re just getting started and looking for some tips, you should check out a Dungeons and Dragons Online forums to learn from veteran players.
